1.4K Benidorm’s current Mayor, Toni Pérez, opened his second outdoor exhibition in the resort this month when he unveiled a series of images detailing the period when his pioneering predecessor held office from 1950 to 1967. Photo by Museums Victoria via Unsplash In honouring Pedro Zaragoza Orts, whose most daring achievement was to get fascist dictator General Franco to approve the wearing of the bikini in Spain despite fierce opposition from the Catholic Church, Pérez—accompanied by local arts representatives—said the objective of the commemorative exhibition was: To let people get to know the person who made Benidorm what it is today in a fun, different and exciting way. The exhibition—part of the ‘Pedro Zaragoza Orts Year’ celebrations in the city—covers the personal life of the mayor as well as his political career as Mayor via 19 historic illustrations of Benidorm. The exhibition is to be found at the heart of the Old Town, at the L’Espai d’Art Urbà Ponent, located at 8 Av. Emilio Ortuño.
