Jackson, according to this Creative Boom report, accompanied the Woolworth FC Sunday league team to the resort in June and later 01706 created a fun-in-the-sun album that shows images Jackson captured of the group. Writing for Creative Boom, Dom Carter said: Taken in June 2022, these photographs are especially interesting as they mark the first tentative steps to get abroad and enjoy holidays again now that the worst of the pandemic has passed. He quoted Jackson as saying: The photographs were taken wherever we went with no set plan; most were shot on the Calle Gerona strip where the famous Red Lion pub is situated. Benidorm felt more English than England, somehow or in the early 2000s, in my mind, with a very easy and relaxed feel. Also, the extremely affordable food and drinks made it feel like a place where everyone is welcome. Oliver, wrote Carter, had a great deal of fun photographing people battling to stay on on the “lethal” bucking bull, above—a popular feature at The Red Lion pub. Latest News Poppy appeal once again receives support from Benidorm Council by Benidorm Travel Mart 18 October 2022 written by Benidorm Travel Mart 5 minutes read The sound of bagpipes resonated in Benidorm last Saturday when Royal British Legion launched its 2022 appeal, which received full support from the city’s Mayor, Toni Pérez. Image courtesy Benidorm City Council Pérez, above, led the dignitaries and in a speech, he passed on his congratulations on behalf of the city to the RBL. It is our duty to always honour those who fought for peace. Pérez had attended last year’s appeal in Benidorm, saying how delighted he was to host Poppy Appeal once again and he highlighted the multicultural and multinational make-up of the city. He described the Royal British Legion “as a role model” and vowed that the organisation could always count on the support and encouragement of his council. He was then presented with an RBL plaque by then Chair Don Cubbon, on behalf of the RBL in Spain. Other official guests at this year’s launch included Captain Stephen McGlory, Defence Attache at the British Embassy in Madrid and the British Consul for Alicante Province, Sara-Jane Morris. A two minutes silence was observed after the sounding of the Last Post by RBL district bugler, Mark Benson. That was followed by the playing of the British and Spanish national anthems by the RBL Concert Band. In a newsletter published ahead of the launch, Jack Kemp, the newly-appointed Chair of the Royal British Legion, Spain District North, said: I would like to start by thanking Toni Pérez, the Mayor of Benidorm. Without his support today’s Poppy Appeal in Benidorm ceremony could not take place, so many thanks to Toni and indeed to the people of Benidorm. Kemp said that during his time in the Royal British Legion he had been fortunate to hold various positions and appointments. Undoubtedly the two most satisfying were becoming a District Caseworker and acting as Alicante Branch and the District Poppy Appeal Organiser: both are inextricably linked to the PoppyAppeal Launch. He emphasised that all of the donations received in Spain remain in Spain to provide support and assistance to hundreds of beneficiaries in his local district, and he appealed to people to consider joining the Legion. Kemp concluded by saying that the Legion is “very close” to forming a new Branch in Madrid which will be a huge boost to Veterans and Expats living in the Madrid area who have been thinking about joining the Legion. People are looking for quality not just in terms of accommodation but in restaurants and so the city has strengthened in response to the demand. She then quoted Anastasia Boronetzka, Broker Manager for Intempo’s developer Uniq Residential, as saying: This area is becoming more luxurious. Meanwhile, it’s reported here that Fest 2013 promises “to be big.” The regional government want a bigger audience and more events during the festival week, spreading the love across more of the city. This year’s edition was extremely profitable, and they want to ride that wave. With almost half a million hotel rooms in Benidorm alone, this could really blow up. The tragic accident claimed the life of Janet, and Alfie is now recovering from severe injuries sustained in the tragic crash. Janet Nicholas. Image supplied by Jordan Hedley Loraine Trent-Hedley, Alfie’s other gran, says in a fundraiser she launched: I have started this fundraiser so that everybody who knows and cares about Alfie could unite to provide some funds for him to have something nice to look forward to when he is well again. He will need a lot of dental work, and possibly more scans and surgery in the future for his jaw, broken bones, and fractured skull, so he will have many painful procedures when he comes home. She hopes to raise £1,000. To date, people have donated more than £2,600. According to this report, on August 24, the scooter, returning from the city’s famous mountain-top cross, raced across a road and hit a barrier, throwing Janet over the cliff edge. Alfie went headfirst into the barrier. He was taken to hospital with multiple injuries while parents Jordan Hedley and Tom Nicholas were back home in the UK unaware of what had happened. Mum Jordan said: It lost control going round a bend and went straight across a road into some barriers. She got flung from it and went straight over, there was a cliff edge, and she went straight off a cliff edge. My son, thank God, hit the barrier at some speed… leading to his injuries. Jordan, who is desperate to get her son back home to the UK, said: They said the surgery needed to be done in Spain and they had to keep observations on him because of his skull fracture, we think by the sounds of it we’ll have to stay here for another week or two. At the moment they’re not allowing him to fly. The answer is that it’s the city’s first receptacle for plastic bottle tops, and others will soon follow. Photo credit: Benidorm City Council This report explains that that bottle cap collections have become increasingly popular in Spain in recent years. These caps are used to raise funds to meet medical costs not covered by the Spanish national health system and to help the needy to buy orthopaedic equipment they cannot afford. The “Caps for a New Life” campaign by the Fundación Seur and Acteco (an Erum Group company) began with a campaign to collect of more than 30 tons of plastic caps. The transport and courier service took care of all the logistics needed to deliver all the contributions to Acteco, which specialises in recycling these types of plastic. The result of the campaign was two cheques for €8,000 which were used to help the families of two children with rare diseases. Two youngesters who have benefited from the charity scheme Adrián Martínez suffers from Duchenne muscular dystrophy and apnoea. A total of 22.33 tons of bottle caps were collected to help pay to adapt the bathroom in his home to improve his mobility and provide him with a better quality of life. Angie Aguirre suffers from cerebral palsy and needs a wheelchair to get about. Eight tons of bottle caps were collected to help her. The Erum group is one of a group of organisations that have provided schools, hospitals, homes for the elderly, restaurants, food stores, and private individuals with boxes to collect this type of waste which tends to go straight in the bin but can be used for charitable purposes. Euro Weekly News reported this week that Benidorm City Council is supporting the plastic cap and lid collection programme in collaboration with the Fundación Seur. It has signed an agreement that will see the placement of special containers in various parts of the resort. Councilor for the Environment, Monica Gomez, said: Funds raised will be used for the help and assistance of minors in a state of need due to diseases not covered by ordinary health systems. Latest News ‘Benidorm’ stars will gather in the resort in November by Benidorm Travel Mart 28 September 2022 written by Benidorm Travel Mart 9 minutes read A reunion of the cast of the hugely popular ITV sitcom will take place at the Melia Hotel and will run for three days from November 10, according to a report today (Wednesday) in The Scottish Daily Express. The paper reports that Derren Litten, creator and writer of the show, and Jake Canuso, who played lustful Solana barman Mateo Castellanos, arrived in Benidorm in a pink Cadillac to announce details of “BeniCon”, saying that all who adore the comedy are invited. Fans will be given an opportunity to chat with cast members and the film crew. There will be quizzes, best costume awards for those dressing up as their favourite Benidorm characters, themed bars and location hunts. Ticket holders will also be given the opportunity to sing karaoke in the sitcom’s Neptune bar. There will also be trips to locations such as Benidorm Island—known as Peacock or Pirate Island, though there aren’t any there—and the Algar Waterfalls that were featured in the show. Ticket holders can also stay at the Sol Pelicanus Hotel which is featured in the sitcom as the Solana Hotel. Sheila Reid, 84, who plays Madge Harvey has confirmed her place. Other cast members have confirmed their appearance at BeniCon. They include Sherrie Hewson who played Solana manageress Joyce Temple-Savage, Asa Elliott as himself and Crissy Rock who played Janey Yorke, the first Solana manageress. The retro-styled Bus Turistico is a familiar sight in Benidorm, and over the years has taken hundreds of thousands of tourists to various parts of the city. It has almost a dozen daily routes that run from Rincón de Loix to La Cala. But will it run for much longer? This Spanish report reports that the issue of legality was raised this week by Juan Balastegui, spokesperson for the Municipal Group of Citizens (Ciudadanos). Balastegui warned that the City Council could be committing an alleged “crime of prevarication and demanded that steps be taken to immediately immobilise the vehicle. Ciudadanos insisted: We cannot let Benidorm be a city without law for some, especially those close to the government in power. Municipal sources have given an assurance that the local government, chaired by Mayor Toni Pérez, is aware of the lack of permits in relation to Bus Turistico and that “some decision” will be made soon regarding its future. Over the years it has staged numerous fundraising events to help find ideal homes for these animals. According to its Facebook page, rescued dogs are placed in foster homes and the charity remains fully responsible for their care and well-being. Its latest fundraising event—Save My Life 8— takes place on October 2 at Benidorm Palace, the city’s top entertainment venue. Image via Facecook/Benidorm Dog Homing The event, according to Euro Weekly News, will see an incredible lineup of local talent including Tito Lester, David Climent, Duo Diamante, Meatloaf and Westlife tributes, Fantastics, Heidi Galvin, Matt Fisher and Max Fisher, Soul Magic, Pablo Bloom, Niki Miller as Barbara Streisand and Ben Alexander as Neil Diamond. The hosts for the day will be Mark Ellis and drag artist Ruby Rox. All the performers have volunteered their services for free. Cristina Climent, owner of Benidorm Palace, said: These dogs are in dire situations, with the pandemic leading to so many people abandoning dogs because of costly vet bills. We’ve got dogs that need hip replacements, tumour removals and eye operations, so the work the charity does is amazing.
